Can’t Look Up!

Did you know that pigs cannot look up and see the sky?  Structurally, pigs neck bones are directed downwards and even if they move the head up, they can lift enough to be level with their backs.  Therefore, they CANNOT see the sky!

This made me think about how often we act like pigs and only look down as we only focus on see what is in front of us.  Psalmist says, “I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?”  (Psalm 121:1).  As we look up and see the vast sky, it should remind us of our Creator who gives us hope, strength and wisdom.  Thus, the following verse 2 says, “My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Although pigs are not structurally impossible to “look up,” there is one way they can see the sky and that is when pigs fall back on their back, overturned.  It’s only when pigs are on their back, they can see the sun, moon, stars and blue sky.

Likewise, when we OVERTURN, humble ourselves, we can see a different world otherwise we can’t see.  Structurally we are able to look up.  Thus, let’s do so often and all the more when we are down on our back.  I hope ythis pastor’s corner will remind us to look up and see where our help comes from.
