As a pastor, I have seen many people being careful around me. Some would not drink (beer or alcoholic beverage) or hide it when I am near them. I have heard people say, “Watch your language! A pastor is here.”
No one has ever asked me this question but what if someone asks me, “Pastor, would it be alright if I smoke while I am praying?”
My immediate answer would be, “Of course not!” I am sure all of you would say the same thing regardless you are a clergy or not.
But what if that person reverses the question and asked, “Pastor, would it be okay that I pray while I am smoking?”
I wonder how many pastors would say, “No!” to that question.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how the same thing can be seen differently and how it also produces a different outcome. Since we all know the importance of communication in relationship, let’s try to focus on both WHAT we say as well as HOW we say things.
Just a thought… have a blessed week!
